Travel Update - CrossCountry

Advice for any essential journeys
It is vital that CrossCountry services remain safe for key workers and for those who need to make essential journeys. That’s why we are putting in to place various measures to help passengers maintain an appropriate distance from others when travelling with us, and to keep travellers and our colleagues safe.

Book before travel
By introducing social distancing on board, we’re only able to use approximately one quarter of the seats on our trains. So, to make this work for those still needing to travel, we ask that bookings are made in advance and a place reserved on a specific train for the journey.

From today, when buying a ticket to travel with CrossCountry, sometimes passengers will no longer receive a specific seat reservation, but rest assured, a place will be reserved on the selected train. For some journeys, travellers may still be allocated a specific seat, but this may not be available on the day and we would ask that any free alternative seat is used while ensuring a suitable distance from other passengers is kept.

To reduce contact, we would also encourage customers to select an E-ticket or M-ticket.

How to reserve a place

  • Buy tickets online via a booking website, mobile site or app and make a reservation at the same time as purchasing the ticket.
  • A specific seat number may not be received and if that is the case any available seat in Standard or First Class can be used depending on the choice of ticket.
  • Places will be made available on a first-come-first-served basis, and when these are fully taken it will not be possible to buy a ticket to travel on that train.

For tickets already purchased

  • If a seat has already been reserved the place on that train will still be available, although the seat number will not apply and in that case any free space can be used.
  • For Season ticket holders, reservations can be made by contacting CrossCountry Customer Relations on 03447 369 123 or via Twitter @CrossCountryUK, or from any staffed station.

Important advice before travel
To keep safe both individually and around others we recommend that:

  • Plan ahead - book online, reserve a place and travel off-peak
  • Consider others - be mindful of those who may be less able
  • Stay safe - wear a face covering and use hand sanitiser or wash hands regularly

Please share this with appropriate colleagues within your business as well as with your client partners to better manage travel arrangements and service enquiries during this challenging time.
